2008 Archives

December 24, 2008 - Christmas with the Blacks!

This year, we celebrated Christmas with my family at my mom's house. We got together on Christmas Eve and played and opened gifts. As always, the kids had a lot of fun. Ella really got into gift-opening this year and absolutely loved every opportunity she received to open gifts! Click here to see pictures from our brief time together.

December 23, 2008 - Baby #3 Sonogram!

We had a 20 week sonogram done and everything looks great. We chose not to find out what we're having and are excited about the arrival in the delivery room and finding out what he/she is! Here are some pictures of our newest little one that is on it's way!

December 20, 2008 - The Polar Express

The weekend before Christmas, my side of the familiy came to visit and we all went on the Polar Express train ride! It was a lot of fun. It was a shortened train trip that took the kids to the "North Pole" and read the Polar Express and passed out hot chocolate and a treat. At the North Pole, Santa even boarded the train and passed out sleigh bells to all of the kids. We bought matching pajamas for the cousins to all wear. They looked so cute and had so much fun! Click here to see pictures from our trip.

December 2 - 8, 2008 - Everett's surgery

Everett's surgery to have tubes put in seemed to go okay. He had a lot of gunk in his ears that was thick and sticky. The doctor said it was stuff that wouldn't have drained on its own and that the antibiotics had worked as well as they could have to keep the infection away. They sucked his ears out and put in the tubes. He woke up (praise God) and now we're home! He's definitely fussy, but hopefully he'll heal quickly and be able to get a full night's sleep soon now that his ears are clear. Click here to see pictures of him before surgery.

December 2, 2008 - 17 weeks

I went in for my 17 week check-up today. Everything is measuring good. I still need to gain some weight (I'm finally up to 2.5 pounds gained!), but the baby's heartbeat is good. It is right around 160 and has been just about every time. I'd say it's a girl because Ella's was like that too, but Everett's really wasn't too slow so it's still anyone's game... Speaking of boy/girl... We have our "big" sonogram on December 22. Do we find out this time (finally) or wait? I just can't decide since I had so much fun waiting with the other two... Click here to listen to the baby's heartbeat. (It's a Window's Media Player audio file so you have to use Windows Media player or something that will play those files to listen.)

November 22 - November 28 - Happy Thanksgiving!

We had a fun trip this year to visit Grandma and Ho-Ho. For the most part, the kids did pretty good on the 12 hour or so drive! We did LOTS of things during Thanksgiving break and the kids had a blast. It was really good to see family again and to let the cousins play together. It's a shame we don't all live closer! There were so many pictures from the trip that I didn't look too hard at any of the ones I selected. Hopefully they look okay! Click here to see all 104 pictures that made it onto our website!

November 13, 2008 - Baby Steps!

It's not full-fledged walking yet, but Everett finally started taking baby steps! Crawling is still his main transportation, but he's super excited about walking back and forth between Mommy and Daddy. He's really cute, too! Click here to see pictures of Everett taking baby steps. (This video should pull up automatically in Windows Media Player. If it doesn't, right click on the file, choose to save it to your computer and then open it on your computer.)

October 25 - November 1, 2008 - Halloween Fun

We had a busy week and a half of Halloween activities beginning with a pumpkin carving party at our house with our Sunday school class and ending with a trip to Boo at the Zoo with Gran, Meridith and the kids. Ella had a party at her preschool class on Thursday, we went to a party that a friend of our's hosted on Halloween morning AND we went to our church's fall festival. Whew! Makes me tired just thinking about it! Click here to see pictures from everything but the party at school (I know, horrible and forgetful pregnant mommy brain forgot the camera!)

October 13 , 2008 - Discovery Science Place

Justin had the day off so we took the kids to Discovery Science Place here. They have all sorts of exhibits, including a news station with working cameras and TVs, a big ship, an ambulance and various dress-up career stations, etc. Ella had a blast and Everett didn't seem to mind too much, either. Click here to see pictures of our day at the science place!

October 11 , 2008 - The Pumpkin Patch

The kids had a lot of fun this fall going to our local pumpkin patch. We went on a hayride to the pumpkins, ran through the pumpkin field looking for just the right two pumpkins, searched our way through a corn maze, went through a hay maze, watched the goats eat corn, played in the water and with the old-fashioned water pump, and of course, took some pictures! Click here to see pictures of our adventures!

October 2 - 6, 2008 - More Inbetween Fun

Here is a compilation of different things we did - a few pictures of the kids when Kyle and Lisa were here including our zoo trip, Rylee's big "pony" birthday party, a surprise 18th birthday dinner for Justin (Rylee's brother), and one picture from a zoo trip I took when I went with some friends from MOPS. Click here to see them! (Everett LOVED riding on a real pony at the birthday party - Ella was scared to death... surprised?)

September 27, 2008 - Big Birthday Bash

Actually, it wasn't too big, but it was a bash! We combined Everett's 1st birthday party with an early 3rd birthday for Ella to condense the trips down to one trip for family. It ended up being fun and we enjoyed seeing family again. Thank you to everyone that made it to the party. Unfortunately, we didn't get a lot of pictures of guests at the party, just the kids... Just too busy for our own good! If you'd like to see pictures of Everett and Ella from the party, click here!

September 26, 2008 - East Texas Fair

This year, Ella and I had the chance to go to the fair with Brandee, Rylee, and Jessi. We went before 1:00 since it is free admission and visited the petting zoo, exhibits, and ate lunch. Rides don't open until evening so we didn't ride any rides. Ella and Rylee both had a lot of fun at the petting zoo with the various animals. Click here to see pictures of the girls at the fair.

June 25 - September 25, 2008 - Everything Inbetween...

As you know, it was a busy time for us between the months of July, August, and September since we were moving and remodeling all at one time... I looked up the pictures I have and surprisingly enough (not really) they are mostly pictures of the house! I've pulled out some of the pictures of the kids and thought I'd just throw them all on one entry. We actually did do some fun things during this time - went to Gran's house a few times, Sophie stayed with us a week at Gran's house and Tommy stayed with us a week at our new house - but I don't seem to have any pictures of it! Click here for some of the pictures we do have of the "inbetween".

June 16-23, 2008 - Moving Time

Amidst the packing up, we were able to catch a few pictures here and there of some cute things. Click here to see pictures of the kiddos in action.

June 23, 2008 - He's crawling!! (FINALLY!!)

My sister kept the kids for us this weekend while we moved a lot of our things into the garage of our new house. I jokingly told her to teach him how to crawl while he was there because he hasn't gone ANYWHERE yet. Not scooting, not rolling places, nothing...

Even though she said she didn't teach him, last night he became mobile! He gets his bottom off the ground and propels forward with his legs and stays low on his elbows in front. We couldn't get him to do it on video last night, but I was able to catch him today. I'm so glad to be able to say he started crawling at 8 months - ha ha!! (For those of you that don't know, he'll be nine months next week.) Click here to see a video of him crawling. (If it doesn't load automatically, right click and save the file and then open it using Windows Media Player to view the file.)

May 17 - June 5, 2008 - Pictures of the Kids

Here are some cute pictures of the kids around the house. Everett just turned eight months and is about 24.5 pounds. He loves standing up and pulling himself up but could care less about attempting to crawl. He loves to sit or lay and reach his LONG arms to grab anything he wants. I don't know how he manages to get what he wants considering he doesn't make much forward progress, but he does. He'll move himself from one end of the blanket after some time, but I think Ella is secretly pushing him where he wants to go.

Dolled-up Daisy, 2008

My sister made a digital scrapbook page of Daisy from one of the pictures on our website. It's pretty funny. Click here to see it!

April 10 - 30, 2008 - Ella's First Haircut

After returning from Amarillo, we decided it was time to trim Ella's hair. Since we've never cut it before, it was pretty stringy and uneven. Not that it turned out more even, but the curly hair hides that. Now her hair brushes out so much easier!

Click here to see pictures of her haircut and some other pictures from around the house.

Beginning of April, 2008 - Trip to Amarillo

I flew up to Amarillo with the kids to be with Justin and see Grandma. It was good to be able to see Grandma one last time and love on her. We know that she is happy now in heaven with Avery.

While we were in Amarillo, the hotel had a "heated" (cold) indoor pool. Ella enjoyed it and Daddy survived it. Click here to see pictures from our trip.

March 23 - April 4, 2008 - Sophie's Birthday

We went to Dallas for a short weekend to help celebrate Sophie's birthday with my side of the family. Click here for some pictures of the kiddos.

March 16 - 23, 2008 - Grandma & Ho-Ho's Easter Visit

Grandma & Ho-Ho came to visit us during their Spring Break. Ella and Everett enjoyed spending time with them while they were here. Ella also enjoyed hunting Easter eggs on Easter. Click here to see pictures from their visit and from Ella's big Easter egg hunt!

March 1 - 15, 2008 - Playing Around

Click here to see some pictures of us playing around the house and outside.

January 18 - February, 2008 - It snowed!

We left the mittens in Kansas, of course... Thinking we wouldn't see snow again until next year in Kansas, we decided to leave the mittens at Grandma and Ho-Ho's house. Ella figured out a work-around though by using her doll's hand to pick up the slush - I mean "snow".

Click here to see pictures of this and more exciting happenings!

January, 2008 - Around the House

After traveling here and there for Christmas, we are finally home! Not long after we returned, we had Kelli and Brian out to stay with us. It was nice to have company and really good to get to spend time with them again.

Click here to see some pictures of around the house and of their visit.
